Near the country village of Loubes-Bernac in the Bordeaux countryside is the buddhist religious retreat known as Plum Village. It was founded by the Nobel Peace prize nominee Thich Nhat Hahn. In the fields surrounding Plum Village, in mid-summer, are large bales of rolled hay. This painting was completed on location in a field adjacent to Plum Village which is in the background.
